Purpose and Importance
- Unified Entrance Examination: NEET is the sole entrance examination for admissions to MBBS/BDS courses across all medical colleges in India, replacing multiple state and institutional entrance exams.
- Admission Criteria: Scores obtained in NEET are used by medical colleges for admission to undergraduate courses.
- Eligibility: Candidates must meet age, educational, and nationality criteria as specified by the National Testing Agency (NTA).
Examination Details
- Subjects: Physics, Chemistry, and Biology (Botany and Zoology).
- Duration: The examination is conducted for three hours.
- Marking Scheme: Each correct answer is awarded four marks, with one mark deducted for each incorrect answer.
Eligibility Criteria
- Age Limit: Candidates must be at least 17 years old at the time of admission or completing the age on or before December 31 of the year of admission.
- Educational Qualification: Candidates must have passed 10+2 or equivalent examination with Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Biotechnology, and English as core subjects.
- Nationality: Indian nationals, Non-Resident Indians (NRIs), Overseas Citizen of India (OCI), Persons of Indian Origin (PIO), and foreign nationals are eligible to apply.
Application Process
- Registration: Candidates need to register online through the official NEET website during the specified registration period.
- Admit Card: Admit cards containing details such as exam center, date, and time of examination are issued to registered candidates.
- Examination Fee: Candidates are required to pay the prescribed examination fee through online mode using debit/credit cards or net banking.
Examination Centers
NEET 2024 will be conducted across various cities and towns in India to provide candidates with the option to choose their preferred examination center.
Result and Counseling
- Declaration of Result: The NEET 2024 result will be announced online, indicating the candidate's score and rank.
- Counseling: Counseling for seat allocation will be conducted by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) and respective state authorities based on NEET scores and ranks.
